Healing with Horses at Stable Connections
At risk youth may feel uncomfortable about communicating their experiences or feelings in a traditional counseling session. We have found that by combining several programs, consisting of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and therapeutic horsemanship has been an effective intervention in addressing behaviors related to grief, trauma or addiction.
Alternating these sessions between therapeutic horsemanship and EAP/EAL have proven to be extremely effective in the healing process. Programs are tailored to meet the client’s individual need and consistent weekly schedule will achieve the best overall results.
Developed by our Executive Director, Karen Guile-Caron with her forty-five years of training horses and twelve years as a certified facilitator in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, she developed a program that builds confidence, trust, respect while forming a bond with horses.
As a result, clients participating in this program bring these skills to their day to day lives, all the while enjoying fun and engaging activities with the horses.
